Cycle Technician/Hire Assistant
Job Title: Cycle Technician & Customer Service/Hire Assistant
Location: Windermere & Bowness-on-Windermere, Lake District
Responsible to: Bike Hire Manager
Salary: Competitive, from National Living Wage, dependent on experience and qualifications.
Hours: Flexible part-time, up to 42.5 hours per week (8:30 – 5:30). Weekend work frequent and essential.
Season: Seasonal role starting Feb/Mar 2026 & ending in Sept/Oct, but with potential to become year-round for the right candidate (off-season hours would be reduced)

The Role: Where Your Skills Meet Adventure
We need a versatile and enthusiastic individual who is as confident with a cassette tool as they are with a customer smile. This role is the perfect blend of workshop and welcome desk, ensuring our bikes and our service are both in peak condition.
Your key responsibilities will include:

Customer Experience: Greeting customers, managing rentals from start to finish (sizing, safety briefings, route advice), and ensuring every client leaves excited for their ride.

Workshop Excellence: Performing safety checks, routine maintenance, and repairs on a fleet of quality standard and e-bikes. Each day ends with preparing the fleet for the next morning's adventures.

Team Support: Assisting with day-to-day shop operations, using our booking system, and handling customer communications.

Shop Operations: Keeping the hire area tidy, managing return inspections for damage, and assisting with basic admin.
About You: Our Ideal Candidate
You’re the person we need if your toolkit includes:
Essential Skills & Attitude:

Proven mechanical experience with modern bicycles, including e-bikes.

A solid track record of positive customer service in a fast-paced environment.

The ability to work independently, and collaboratively as part of a team.

A genuine passion for cycling, the outdoors, and making activities accessible to all.

Excellent communication skills, patience, and a calm demeanour under pressure.

Strong computer literacy and attention to detail.

Reliability and a strong work ethic, rain or shine our clients and team can count on you.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
Desirable (but not essential):

Experience in an activity centre or similar operational environment.

Cytech mechanic training or equivalent.

A British Cycling Trail Cycle Leader award or equivalent, this could lead to guided ride opportunities! (Is that even work then?).
